Wide receiver breakouts don't always play out the way we'd like them to. Jahan Dotson was pegged by many, including me, to be a star this season.
Unfortunately, new full-time starter Sam Howell is dedicated to spreading the ball around to different targets, including Curtis Samuel, veteran tight end Logan Thomas, young tight ends Cole Turner and John Bates, and his college pal Dyami Brown, as well. Sigh. Terry McLaurin and Dotson are one and two in targets on the team, but the numbers aren't where fantasy managers would like.
Dotson is also dealing with an ankle injury that briefly forced him out of action against Philadelphia in Week 4. The hope for fantasy managers is that it doesn't linger into Week 5.

Jahan Dotson Injury Update For Fantasy Football
Dotson (ankle) hung out with fellow wide receiver Curtis Samuel (quad) on the injury report this week. Despite the short week (Washington hosts Chicago on Thursday Night Football), both wide receivers appear to be ready to take the field.
Dotson's ankle ailment doesn't appear to be a major issue. Upon returning to the game against the Eagles, the second-year receiver scored the game-tying touchdown on the final play of regulation to send the game to overtime.
Jahan Dotson Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook
Jahan Dotson ranks ninth in the entire NFL in routes run (149) this season. Unfortunately, his targets (25), target share (19.1%), and target rate (16.8%) all rank in the 40's or worse. If he and the Commanders were playing any team other than Chicago (and probably Denver) on Thursday, Dotson would find a spot on the bench. Through four games, he's totaled 14 catches for 110 yards and one score.
The Bears' secondary is among the worst in the NFL and that was before injuries plagued their playmakers. Chicago has allowed the second-most points per game (34.3) to opposing offenses. Fantasy managers hoping for another Dotson touchdown could get their wish in a high-scoring affair. Dotson can be started as a flex in standard-sized leagues.
