San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo started the year as the team’s fourth option on the depth chart. The rookie running back wasn’t expected to play much if at all, this season.
Unfortunately, the 49ers have had to lean on the former Louisville star lately. They placed Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) on season-ending injured reserve before Week 1. Furthermore, San Francisco had to place Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) on injured reserve following the Week 13 contest against the Buffalo Bills.
While Guerendo has played well in limited action, the rookie running back has struggled to stay healthy. Is he out for the season, or will he play in Week 17?

Is Isaac Guerendo Out For The Season?
Guerendo missed the Week 16 matchup against the Miami Dolphins because of foot and hamstring injuries. While the 49ers have been eliminated from the playoffs, the team has no public plans to shut down the rookie running back. Furthermore, he was limited in practice today, giving him a chance to play Monday night against the Detroit Lions.
Isaac Guerendo (foot, hamstring) will be limited in practice Thursday.

Should I Start Isaac Guerendo In Week 17?
While Guerendo could suit up for Monday night’s matchup against the Lions, fantasy players might want to consider other options during their fantasy football championship game. The rookie running back has played well in limited action as the starter, totaling two rushing touchdowns in his two starts.

However, Guerendo took advantage of poor run defenses in his two starts this season, averaging 17.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Unfortunately, the Lions have one of the top run defenses in the NFL, limiting the rookie’s upside this week.
Detroit has held running backs to 16.9 fantasy points per game, the fifth-fewest in the NFL. They have given up 39 or fewer rushing yards to running backs in four of their past six games, including only 23 in Week 16.
