Is Hendon Hooker Healthy Or Injured? Fantasy Football Injury Update

Hendon Hooker - CFB DFS Lineup Picks, Daily College Fantasy Football, NFL Draft

Is Hendon Hooker injured or healthy? Should I draft Hendon Hooker? Read the latest fantasy football injury news for Hendon Hooker.

Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker was the 68th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The rookie quarterback had a productive college career.

Hooker spent the first three years of his career at Virginia Tech. He completed 63.1% of his pass attempts for 2,894 yards and 22 touchdowns, compared to seven interceptions in 21 games. The former Hokie also had 247 rushing attempts for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns at Virginia Tech.

Despite having a solid three-year run, Hooker transferred to Tennessee before the 2021 season. The veteran quarterback had an impressive first year with the team. He completed 68% of his pass attempts for 2,945 yards and 31 touchdowns compared to only three interceptions. Despite some calling for him to declare for the NFL Draft, Hooker returned to Tennessee in 2022.

What Did Hendon Hooker Accomplish In 2022?

After having a breakout year in 2021, the former Volunteer became one of the top quarterbacks in college football last season. Hooker completed 69.6% of his pass attempts for 3,135 yards and 27 touchdowns, compared to only two interceptions. He also had 104 rushing attempts for 430 yards and five touchdowns last year.

The former Tennessee superstar suffered a torn ACL in the matchup against South Carolina, ending his season. Before getting hurt, Hooker was a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. Despite missing the final two games last year, the superstar finished third in the SEC with 27 passing touchdowns. He also finished fourth in passing yards and first in yards per pass attempt in the SEC.

Is Hendon Hooker Healthy Or Injured?

While some believed Hooker would be a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Tennessee star slid to the third round. Unfortunately, the torn ACL played a role in the quarterback’s slide.

Earlier this offseason, head coach Dan Campbell will have a “redshirt” year in 2023. With Jared Goff entrenched as the starter and Nate Sudfeld as the backup, the Lions have no reason to rush Hooker back onto the field.

The rookie quarterback wouldn’t have any fantasy value this season, even without the torn ACL. Last year Goff was productive for Detroit, totaling 4,438 passing yards and 29 touchdowns. While fantasy players will have to wait at least a year to see Hooker on the field, the former Tennessee star is worth stashing on the bench or taxi squad in dynasty leagues.
