Fantasy footballers probably thought Gus Edwards would be the Los Angeles Chargers’ top tailback in 2024. Instead, he is not on a roster in half of the fantasy leagues in the world right now.
After setting career-highs with 810 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens, Edwards took his talents to L.A. to battle with former tailback teammate J.K Dobbins for touches, targets, and playing time. Dobbins won the battle, though, and Edwards has only mustered 365 rushing yards and four touchdowns during a disappointing season. Missing a month due to his ailing ankle in the middle of the season did not help matters.
Lamar Jackson had Gus Edwards putting up LT numbers and went 14-3

Edwards missed Week 17 due to an ankle injury, and his status for Week 18’s finale and the playoffs is up in the air. So is Edwards out for the season? Here is the latest:
Is Gus Edwards Out For The Season?
Edwards has not been officially ruled out for the season, or for Week 18 for that matter. There is no new news on his troublesome ankle, and in this case no news is good news. We will probably hear more as the week goes on as and the Chargers have practices.
There is no reason to rush Edwards back for the regular-season swan song. Dobbins has returned from his knee injury and looked great against New England in Week 17. Backups Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins are decent enough to give Dobbins breathers this week as the Chargers face division rival Las Vegas in a game that is only semi-important as their playoff seeding will be affected depending on the outcome.
Edwards is a nice change-of-pace back who has a nose for the end zone when he is healthy and given red zone rushing attempts. If he returns this week, he would probably receive 5-10 carries with Dobbins carrying more of the load. If he does not then hopefully he will suit up for the postseason and be an option for people who extend their fantasy fun in playoff leagues.
