Los Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett had a career year in 2022. He's coming off a 500-yard season, his best ever. He's playing for a high-powered pass-heavy offense. Shouldn't he be a great fantasy asset in 2023?
While there is reason to be excited about Everett, there are also plenty of reasons to temper expectations. The Chargers are stacked with talented pass-catchers, and quarterback Justin Herbert prefers throwing to wide receivers and running backs.
Does Gerald Everett have any place on your fantasy team? Let's look at what he's been doing this season and consider whether he is a waiver wire add you should target.

What Did Gerald Everett Accomplish In Week 3?
Gerald Everett caught six passes for 30 yards in the Chargers' narrow victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Everett's six catches and six targets were both the most he's had this season. The catches add six points in PPR leagues, bringing his total to nine points, good for TE12, a reasonable amount for the tight end on a team that eschews using early draft picks on the position.
However, Everett has yet to score a touchdown in either of his first three games. Everett's teammate, tight end Donald Parham, by contrast, caught two touchdown passes this week and one touchdown pass in Week 1. Parham has four red zone targets, and Everett has two red zone targets.
Parham has been on the field for 34 or more snaps every week of the season, while Everett played 28 snaps in Week 2 and 38 in Week 3. So Everett hasn't even got the No. 1 TE spot locked down on his own team.
Is Gerald Everett A Good Fantasy Football Pickup for Week 4?
Gerald Everett is averaging the 17th-best weekly finish in PPR fantasy football. In the two weeks that Austin Ekeler has missed, Everett has finished as the TE23 and the TE12. Last season, Everett averaged the 12th-best weekly finish and finished among the top-12 tight ends seven times.
Everett's competitor for volume, Donald Parham, suffered from multiple injuries, including a hamstring injury, during the 2022 season, so he only played in six games. In games that Parham plays in, Everett's production is severely limited.
Everett's average PPR scoring declines by four points per game when he shares the field with Parham. He is targeted about 40% fewer times when Parham plays, and he gains half as many yards.
Everett should only be considered as an add if your ordinary tight end is injured or underperforming. Everett faces the Raiders, who have allowed the fifth-most points to opposing tight ends, so it is a favorable matchup.
