San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was the 146th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Kittle had a limited college career, totaling only 48 receptions for 737 receiving yards in four years at Iowa. However, he did have 10 receiving touchdowns in his final two years in college on only 42 receptions.
More importantly, the former Iowa tight end had a solid rookie season, totaling 43 receptions on 63 targets for 515 receiving yards and two touchdowns. However, Kittle had a sophomore-year breakout season, totaling 88 receptions on 136 targets for 1,377 receiving yards and five receiving scores.
Kittle has been one of the top tight ends in the NFL over the past several years. He has averaged 5.3 receptions on 7.3 targets for 70.7 receiving yards and 0.4 touchdowns per game since his rookie season. Unfortunately, the star tight end has struggled with injuries.

Is George Kittle Injured Or Healthy?
The former Iowa tight end has only played an entire season once in his career, back in 2018. Furthermore, Kittle has missed 26% of the games over the past three years. Unfortunately, the injury bug bit him a few days ago in training camp.
Kittle suffered an adductor strain in practice. The injury will reportedly sideline the star tight end for about a week.
While the injury isn’t severe, fantasy players should stay on top of Kittle’s progression. The veteran tight end has struggled with multiple soft tissue injuries in his career. Last year the former Iowa tight end missed the first time games of the season with a groin strain.
Should I Draft George Kittle?
Last year the star tight end was outstanding for fantasy players. Kittle had 60 receptions on 86 targets for 765 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022, setting a career-high in receiving scores.
More importantly, the veteran was the TE3 last season, averaging 11.4 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he was the TE2 on a points-per-game basis.
However, fantasy players should temper their expectations for Kittle this year. The veteran tight end averaged four receptions and 51 receiving yards per game last year, the lowest averages of his career since his rookie season.
Meanwhile, Kittle averaged 5.8 targets per game in the six regular season matchups with Brock Purdy. However, he averaged 4.7 targets per game in the three contests he played with Purdy and Deebo Samuel. While the veteran is still a top-seven fantasy tight end this season, fantasy players should avoid drafting him over Kyle Pitts and Darren Waller.
