Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram's 2023 season and the start to his 2024 season are opposites. He was the TE2 in full-PPR scoring formats last season, playing in all 17 regular-season games and leading the league in targets for a tight end. He was stellar.
This season, he's played in only one game and has just one catch for five yards. The Jaguars haven't been the best offense and are 0-4 on the season, and Engram's presence is sorely missed. Fantasy managers are also missing a presence like 2023 Engram during 2024's tight-end apocalypse.
Is Evan Engram playing in Week 5 or will he sit out? Let's dive in.

Is Evan Engram Playing in Week 5?
After missing two straight contests in Weeks 3 and 4, Engram logged two straight limited practices for the Jaguars on Wednesday and Thursday. He is recovering from a hamstring injury that happened during pregame activities for his Week 2 game. He hasn't seen the field since.

While it's not clear yet if he will return, as the Jaguars coaches have not confirmed his Week 5 availability, it's good to see him return to practice. He didn't participate at all in Weeks 3 and 4. He appears to be progressing nicely in his recovery, but his status for this week is up in the air.
Engram's fantasy managers would be best served to continue checking back for updates and hang onto whatever backup plan they've utilized during his injury so far.
Evan Engram Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook
If he does play, he's a must-start at tight end simply because of his previous production. Jacksonville has struggled to run the ball this year with Travis Etienne Jr., and the rival Colts have a poor pass defense. Indy has allowed 14.7 PPR fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends, the third most in the league.
Trevor Lawrence with a back shoulder touchdown throw to Evan Engram to cut it to a one-score game!
— Austin Pendergist (@apthirteen) January 7, 2024
Engram was a reliable target in 2023, and the hope is that the chemistry he has with QB Trevor Lawrence can pick up where it left off. Managers will have to hope the first game was an aberration. Even if it was, tight-end scoring is horrendous this year, so managers won't have much of a choice.
For now, when Engram does play, he's a must-start. Choosing which one to start feels like finding a pot of gold at the end. Good production feels mythical at this point.
