Evan Engram was known as an underachieving tight end who dropped too many passes and was held back by a New York Giants offense during his five seasons with the organization. He needed a fresh start, and he got one after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars last offseason.
If Engram needed to prove to people that he could be a premium pass catcher in the right offense with the right quarterback, he certainly did it this season. He set career-highs with 73 receptions and 766 receiving yards while playing in all 17 of Jacksonville’s games. Engram was integral to the Jags passing attack and helped give franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence another talented target to throw to.
So what does the fantasy football future hold for Engram? Where will he play in 2023? Here is a look at his situation heading into the offseason:

Is Evan Engram a Free Agent in 2023?
Yes, he certainly is. He only signed a one-year deal with Jacksonville, so he is free to go wherever he wants this offseason. Engram and his agent had the correct strategy for sure when he signed just a one-year “show me” contract. He bet on himself and now it might translate into multimillions thanks to the superb season he had in 2022.
Which team will sign Engram this offseason?
It would probably behoove Engram to stay put in Jacksonville. Head coach and offensive mastermind Doug Pederson figured out how to utilize Engram properly after years of being misused or miscast by the Giants. Engram would also be able to keep playing with Lawrence, who should be the team’s QB for the next decade and has greatly improved after a rough rookie season. There will not be many teams with a better young QB that Engram could partner with than the Jaguars.
If Engram looks to cash in on his career year and the price is too high for Jacksonville, there are a couple of teams who could use his special services. The Dallas Cowboys might be in the market for a top tight end if Dalton Schultz takes his talents elsewhere since he too is a free agent. The Detroit Lions are on the verge of being a playoff team and have a gaping hole at tight end after trading T.J. Hockenson away during the season.
The Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and Washington Commanders could all use help at the tight end position, although none are the attractive landing spots that Jacksonville, Dallas, and Detroit are. There should be plenty of offers heading Engram’s way this offseason as he has shown his wide-receiver-like skill set can be beneficial to any team’s passing attack.
I would rank Jacksonville as the odds-on favorite to land Engram this offseason, but do not be surprised to see him don another uniform in 2023. He should be able to garner a multi-year contract worth many millions coming off the season he just had. He is a low-end TE1 or a high-end TE2 heading into the 2023 NFL campaign.
