Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado went undrafted during the 2023 NFL Draft. Demercado had a solid college career, totaling 338 rushing attempts for 1,615 yards and 10 touchdowns in five years at TCU. He also had 40 receptions for 277 receiving yards and a touchdown in college.
The former Horned Frog’s best year came in 2022. He had 121 rushing attempts for 681 yards and six touchdowns. Furthermore, Demercado averaged 5.6 yards per rushing attempt, a career high.
More importantly, the former TCU running back made the Cardinals’ 53-man roster. While he is the No. 3 running back on the depth chart behind James Conner and Keaontay Ingram, Demercado has made an impact this season.

What Did Emari Demercado Accomplish In Week 5?
The undrafted free agent has 14 rushing attempts for 48 yards and a touchdown over the first five weeks. He also has caught six of nine targets for 40 receiving yards this year.
Last week, the former TCU running back entered the game for an injured Conner. Demercado was impressive with his touches. The undrafted rookie running back had 10 rushing attempts for 45 yards and a touchdown. He also caught one of three targets for 12 receiving yards in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Is Emari Demercado A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 6?
Unfortunately, Conner suffered a knee injury in Week 5 and couldn’t return to the game. Reportedly, the veteran running back could miss time with the knee injury, leaving the Cardinals with a limited running back unit.
Arizona claimed running back Tony Jones Jr. off waivers from the New Orleans Saints today. However, fantasy players should expect the undrafted rookie running back to be the starter this week against the Los Angeles Rams if Conner can’t play.
Fantasy players should expect a three-down role for Demercado if he is the starter in Week 6. Last week, he had a 69% route participation rate, one of the highest among running backs.
Meanwhile, the Rams have held opposing running backs to only 14.7 fantasy points per game this season, one of the lowest averages in the NFL. Therefore, fantasy players shouldn’t expect a massive performance from Demercado this week despite being the featured guy.
