Elijah Mitchell has had a difficult start to his career since the San Francisco 49ers drafted him with the 194th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has already missed 18 games in two seasons of his career and was dealing with another injury during the 49ers training camp.
Last season, after playing just five games, Mitchell's season ended after he suffered an MCL injury. In this year's training camp, he suffered a groin injury and missed significant time.
In this article, we will discuss his injury status, as many fantasy managers are keeping an eye on him to draft in later rounds.

Elijah Mitchell Injury Status
With only two weeks remaining until the start of the new season, Elijah Mitchell is reportedly back in training. He is likely to feature in the Week 1 clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He might not play in the 49ers' last preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers this week, but barring any late setbacks, he will be available to play some snaps in the season opener.
The 49ers RB1 is Christian McCaffrey, but having Mitchell healthy is quite important for the team. He will ease the workload on McCaffrey, allowing him to stay healthy for the important part of the season.
Elijah Mitchell Needs To Stay Healthy
As stated earlier, Mitchell has dealt with numerous injuries in just two years in the NFL, and that has taken a hit on his production. Last season, in five games, he finished with 45 carries for 279 yards and scored two touchdowns. In his rookie season, the 25-year-old running back played 11 games in which he had 207 carries for 963 yards and scored six touchdowns.
Kyle Shanahan always brings the best out of his players, which is why if Mitchell is able to stay healthy, he could once again have a season where he finishes with nearly 800 yards and show up whenever he is called upon by the team.
