Former Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary agreed to a 1-year, $3.7 million contract with the Houston Texans for the 2023 NFL season.
Singletary will have just turned 26-years-old when the league year begins and will be entering his fifth season, his first away from Buffalo.
How will Singletary perform with his new team under first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans?

What Did Devin Singletary Accomplish In 2022?
Singletary split the backfield with James Cook in 2022 and began to lose more work as the season progressed. After a super strong league-winning stretch down the end of the 2021 season, Singletary returned to his inconsistent ways.
The 5-foot-7 running back was a low-end RB2/high-end RB3, carrying the ball 178 times for 822 yards and five touchdowns. He added 38 receptions for 280 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Buffalo let Singletary walk in free agency, and recently signed former Patriot Damien Harris to be the “thunder” to James Cook’s “lightning.”
Is Devin Singletary A Good Fit With The Texans?
With the league shifting more and more towards a running-back-by-committee approach, bellcow running backs are disappearing by the minute. Dameon Pierce was a bellcow a season ago, carrying the load for a wildly inefficient Houston offense and giving hope to a fanbase in need of a youth movement.
Adding Singletary to the mix is a great move from Houston’s perspective, as they lacked a talented ball-carrier to rotate in and take carries from Pierce which ultimately resulted in him suffering a season-ending ankle injury. From a fantasy perspective, not so much.
The Texans addressed the offensive line, locking in Laremy Tunsil in a lucrative extension and trading for veteran guard Shaq Mason. Ryans and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik came over from the 49ers, who are no stranger to running the football. With a rookie quarterback, likely Bryce Young, expect Houston to lean on the run this season.
That being said, the Texans’ backfield could be a hot-hand situation between Pierce and Singletary. Both backs are talented, but projecting big games could be difficult with both of them expected to split carries. Singletary could see more passing down usage while Pierce sees more early down work.
While Houston is not expected to have an efficient offense this season, it is hard to imagine them being worse than they were a season ago. It may be a down year for Singletary with him moving from one of the best offenses in football to one of the worst, and his consistency should only get worse. He should not be a strong fantasy play this season barring an injury to Pierce.
