Is Deshaun Watson Injured or Playing in Week 9?
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is set to start in Week 9 at home against the Cardinals. He hasn't completed a full game since Week 3 but had two consecutive full participations in practice this week and enters Week 9 without an injury designation.
The Browns announced Watson as the starter on Thursday, and he participated in practice in some capacity every day this week. In contrast, before his last attempted start in Week 7, Watson had only two practices and wasn't named the starter until Saturday.
Deshaun Watson Fantasy Football Injury Outlook
Despite being considered week-to-week since his injury in the Browns' Week 3 victory over the Titans, Watson is back in action against the 1-7 Cardinals. In two of his three full games this year, he scored 20 or more fantasy points, ranking as a top 10 QB in those weeks.
Watson typically offers great upside as a quarterback who can excel both in passing and rushing. The matchup at home against the Cardinals this week is favorable since they have allowed the seventh-most points per game to quarterbacks this year.
While Watson's potential is quite high this week, it might be wise to explore alternative options if available. There's a risk that his rotator cuff injury could flare up after taking a hit or two, and starting a quarterback only to have him pulled early can lead to losses in your fantasy matchups. Allowing him to complete a full game before reintroducing him into fantasy lineups is likely the smarter choice.
