New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (hand, concussion) is dealing with fractures in his non-throwing hand and a concussion at this time. He suffered the injuries when trying to leap over a New York Giants defender. He ended up landing at an awkward angle head-first on the ground.
He reached out his left hand in an attempt to brace his fall, and might have saved himself a bit of brain damage, but in the process, he fractured bones in his hand. He got the concussion anyways, as well. It wasn't great, Bob!
So will Carr be out for the season or will he play again?

Is Derek Carr Out For The Season?
It doesn't look like he'll take the field again. He could technically recover from his concussion in time for Week 16, as his injuries occurred back in Week 14. But if you look below, you can see the play where Carr got injured. When his left hand hits the ground, the pressure of his body weight appears to make it buckle.

Injured on this play, not moving his left arm as he walked off the field. Landed hard on his left hand which would lead to concern for a wrist/forearm fracture or wrist sprain. Possible shoulder but less likely. We’ll see what the reports say pic.twitter.com/JPUwEf99sg

After recovering somewhat from the concussion he sustained, you can see him grab his left hand in pain. Apparently, that hand isn't able to withstand any kind of contact, and that shouldn't change for at least a few weeks. Obviously, football is a contact sport, and with only three weeks left in the regular season, it's unlikely he takes the field again.
There's no reason to, either. The team is now 5-9, and while they're not officially eliminated from playoff contention, they may as well be. It would take a miracle to get them into the postseason, and it's extremely unlikely to happen with a team that's suffered so many injuries and will be starting backup quarterbacks from now on.
We don't expect Carr to play again in 2024, and it may only be a matter of time before the Saints indicate as much to the media.
