New Orleans Saints Derek Carr (oblique) and his new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak worked together to shred opposing defenses in their first two games in 2024. The 33-year-old vet threw five touchdowns and rushed for another in the pair of contests, engineering blowouts of the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys.
Things came to a screeching halt after that, probably due to the injury of Saints starting center Erik McCoy. The offensive line already lacked depth, and the dynamic of the offense completely changed. Far fewer explosive plays were to be had, and Carr's numbers naturally dipped.
In other bad news, the 11th-year pro is now at risk of missing upcoming games. Is Derek Carr hurt or healthy, and will he play in Week 6?

Derek Carr Injury Update for Fantasy Football
After the initial announcement that he was to miss multiple weeks with an oblique injury, the Saints provided an update on the specifics of his ailment. He is dealing with a torn oblique. This is a significant injury, and all but guarantees multiple weeks will be needed for his recovery.

It's an unfortunate development for a quarterback who looked to have a new lease on his career and was playing excellent football when he had an offensive line that could give him time to throw. Fantasy managers should execute their backup plan if they were starting Carr. He won't be back for a while.
Derek Carr Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 6
He won't play, so there isn't an outlook. New Orleans will turn to rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler to lead their offense in the absence of DC. It will be Rattler's first start, so it may be tough sledding for the offensive attack.

When the Saints QB1 returns, he's obviously a must-start in leagues with multiple starting quarterback slots, but considering his play over the last three weeks, he's a bench stash in single-QB leagues. He may return to dominance when McCoy returns to anchor the offensive line, but there isn't enough talent there to keep Carr clean otherwise.
