Is Deebo Samuel Out For The Season?
Dynamic 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has proven himself to be one of the most explosive and versatile players in the NFL. Samuel is often utilized as a runner and has recorded 207 rushing yards and two TDs on the ground while totaling 569 receiving yards with a pair of scores through the air.
Unfortunately, Samuel suffered an injury in San Fran's Week 14 win over the Tampa Bay Bucs. He was carted from the field with the issue. While the Niners and Samuel are still awaiting some test results, early evaluations suggest that he suffered a high-ankle sprain that would likely sideline him for 4-6 weeks. Even if he has indeed avoided a disastrous injury, he would still be done for the remainder of the regular season.
Should I Pick Up Jauan Jennings For Fantasy Football?
With Samuel likely sidelined for the remainder of the regular season, the Niners will be forced to test the depth of their receiving corps.
We can expect both Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle to see a bump in usage in Samuel's absence. This should also lead to elevated volume for third-year WR Jauan Jennings.
The former Tennessee Volunteer has been a solid, if unspectacular contributor for the Niners. Jennings has logged 303 receiving yards with one TD in 2022.
Jennings is a gritty player who does a lot of things well, but those contributions don't always show up in the box score. That said, he is a capable player that will see plenty of playing time in Samuel's absence. However, we shouldn't expect him to have a huge fantasy impact in a run-heavy Niners offense that's currently being led by Brock Purdy. Only desperate fantasy GMs in the deepest of leagues should consider adding Jennings.
