Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (knee) suffered a knee injury in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills. Initially, his prognosis was reported to be grim -- supposedly, he wouldn't have been able to play again this season. But apparently, this reporting wasn't correct.
Instead, it was later said that Montgomery had a chance to play again, and could rehab his MCL ailment and have a chance at taking the field again. It was a strange, but welcome, turn of events. Luckily for him, the Lions also crushed the now-eliminated Minnesota Vikings, so he had an extra week to rest.
But will he be able to play again this year?

Is David Montgomery Out For The Season?
There's great news on this front. Monty logged a full practice on Tuesday (though it was an estimated practice report, as the team held a walkthrough), his team's first of the week. And he himself told reporters that he would be ready to play for the Divisional round game against the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
RB David Montgomery jokingly says his knee feels better now than it did when he got here after a few weeks of rest. He carried a really positive mindset the whole time and put a lot of faith in God that he’d get back to the field. Highly recommend listening to this presser.… pic.twitter.com/5Cfsce6Bb2

This, combined with Lions head coach Dan Campbell's earlier comments expressing that Monty would be ready, make it a near-guarantee that he'll suit up. Regarding fantasy football, it's not clear how much volume he'll get. Detroit could choose to ease him back in. Typically, injury situations are difficult to predict because we can't know exactly how a player is feeling.
Since we don't have access to medical reports or to Montgomery's mind to ascertain exactly how his knee feels, and we don't know what offensive coordinator Ben Johnson's plans for him are, that's not information we can obtain. Instead we just have to guess.
But given the extended layoff, we don't expect much of a dip in touches, especially in such an important contest.
