Running back David Montgomery signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Detroit Lions this past offseason. When the Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, it was expected that Montgomery would take a back seat.
However, that hasn't been the case so far. The 26-year-old running back has played quite well so far and has become a crucial part of his team's success. After missing the game in Week 3 due to a thigh injury, he suffered another blow in Week 6's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
How serious is Montgomery's injury? Let's take a look at his injury update for Week 7.

David Montgomery Injury Update for Fantasy Football
David Montgomery left the game in Week 6 due to a rib cartilage injury. As per Lions HC Dan Campbell, the running back is expected to miss some time.
He is unlikely to play in the next few weeks, but Jahmyr Gibbs is on pace to play against the Baltimore Ravens this week. Montgomery's injury is a big setback for the Lions, who have the joint-best record in the NFL.
Whether or not Gibbs will fill Montgomery's void remains to be seen, but fantasy football managers will hope that the latter returns from injury soon.
David Montgomery Fantasy Football Outlook
So far this season, Montgomery has had 94 carries for 385 yards while scoring six touchdowns in five games. He is averaging 4.1 yards per carry and has scored a touchdown in every game that he played this season before Week 6.
The RotoBaller staff has him ranked #8 among RBs through the first six weeks of the season. Given his usage so far, it won't be a wise decision for any manager to drop him from their teams due to his injury.
Montgomery has recorded a total of 79.1 points in full PPR scoring leagues this season while averaging 15.8 points per game. He is currently a consensus top-10 running back in fantasy football this season. Apart from Gibbs, the Lions have Craig Reynolds as their other running back, and his production is likely to increase as well.
