Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery joins Jahmyr Gibbs to make the best 1-2 backfield combination in the NFL. Both star running backs had over 1,000 scrimmage yards during the regular season.
Unfortunately, Montgomery suffered a knee injury in the Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The team thought he was out for the year.
Thankfully, the veteran didn’t need season-ending surgery. Is Montgomery hurt or healthy? Will he play this week? Let’s dive into the latest info.

Is David Montgomery Hurt Or Healthy?
The Lions earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, giving them a first-round bye. The off week was significant for Detroit and Montgomery. The veteran running back missed the first three weeks of the regular season. However, he won’t miss any playoff action.
Montgomery was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice, putting him on track for Saturday night’s Divisional Round matchup against the Washington Commanders.

The Lions and fantasy players couldn’t have been happier with the former Iowa State star during the regular season. Meanwhile, the Lions backfield should have no trouble against a struggling Commanders run defense. Washington gave up 22.9 fantasy points per game to running backs during the regular season. They surrendered the fourth-most rushing yards to running backs in the regular season, allowing 113.8 per game.
Last week, Bucky Irving had his way with the Commanders' defense. The star rookie running back had 17 rushing attempts for 77 yards, two receptions for six receiving yards, and a touchdown, totaling 15.3 fantasy points.
Fantasy players should expect a strong performance from Montgomery against the Commanders on Saturday night.
