Veteran offensive tackle David Bakhtiari was a fourth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He started every game of his career, including all 16 as a rookie.
Bakhtiari has made three Pro Bowl teams in his 11-year career. Furthermore, the veteran made the AP’s first or second All-Pro team every year from 2016 through 2020, when he was arguably the top left tackle in the NFL.
Unfortunately, Bakhtiari has struggled with injuries over the past few years. He has played in only 13 contests over the past three seasons, including only one game in 2021 and 2023.

Is David Bakhtiari A Free Agent?
The Packers released Bakhtiari earlier this offseason after spending his 11-year career in Green Bay. Unfortunately, the injury history became too much for the team, as they’ve turned the page to the Jordan Love era. While some thought the veteran could retire because of all the injuries, Bakhtiari remains available on the open market and wants to play this upcoming season.
A lot of emotion in this. I just want to say THANK YOU Green Bay. Thank you for the last 11 years. It’s been a hell of a run. I always wanted to raise a Lombardi on Lombardi avenue, but I will never complain. I gave it my all. I always gave it my best no matter the circumstance… pic.twitter.com/dnc7gkKSAC

Which Teams Could Sign David Bakhtiari?
Bakhtiari is very good friends with Aaron Rodgers, making the New York Jets a popular landing spot for the veteran last year. However, Bakhtiari got hurt, and a trade never materialized. The Jets are no longer an option for the veteran offensive tackle after they signed Tyron Smith in free agency, traded for Morgan Moses, and drafted Olumuyiwa Fashanu.

While Bakhtiari won’t be reunited with Rodgers, he could protect another future Hall of Fame quarterback. The Kansas City Chiefs have Wanya Morris and second-round rookie Kingsley Suamataia set to compete for the starting left tackle spot. However, the Chiefs should explore signing Bakhtiari to protect Patrick Mahomes’ blindside. The veteran is one of the top offensive tackles in the NFL when healthy.
Another potential landing spot is the Washington Commanders. They spent a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Brandon Coleman. He will compete with Cornelius Lucas for the starting left tackle spot. Bakhtiari would step in right away and be a massive upgrade for either player in 2024.
