The Dallas Cowboys season has ended and after yet another playoff failure, questions and frustrations are running rampant down in Texas. Fans are frustrated, and owner Jerry Jones is likely to respond by making wholesale changes.
One of the primary areas of focus for the team will be what to do at the tight-end position. Dalton Schultz, the team's fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, is now a free agent.
Will the Cowboys re-sign Schultz or let him walk? If they don't come to an agreement, where will he go? Let's look at all the reports and rumors and try to find an answer.

Will The Dallas Cowboys Re-Sign Dalton Schultz In 2023?
The Cowboys decided to place the franchise tag on Schultz for 2022-2023, allowing him to become a free agent this upcoming offseason. The Dallas tight end finished the season with 57 receptions for 577 yards and five touchdowns.
One of quarterback Dak Prescott's favorite targets has always been the former Stanford University star and his safety net on so many occasions. Schultz has been reliable, productive, and consistent since coming into the league in 2018.
Now with two young and promising tight ends behind him who might be ready to take over (Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot), it might be time for Jones to part ways with the man who wears number 86, as the price tag may just be too high.
Which Team Will Sign Schultz In The Offseason?
Despite having just an average year, Schultz still finds himself at the top of the list when it comes to the 2023 tight-end free agent class. Jaguars TE Evan Engram and Bengals TE Hayden Hurst also are recognized names that will demand big paydays, and it will be fascinating to see who goes where and for how much.
Would Jones and Prescott like to have their 26-year-old pass catcher back in the fold for the foreseeable future? Of course. But with another early playoff exit now under their belts, it may be time to head in another direction and allocate those dollars elsewhere.
Teams that might require the services of a tight end this offseason include the Miami Dolphins, the Tennessee Titans, and the Jaguars if Engram bolts as a free agent. How much will Schultz cost, and which franchise will be willing to spend significant money to sign him? Only time will tell, but it sure feels like he won't be calling Texas home when the season opens in September.
