Atlanta Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson has been one of the better fantasy running backs over the past year. Last season he was the RB9 in half-point PPR scoring, averaging 13 fantasy points per game.
This season the veteran running back started the year on fire, averaging 15.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game over the first three weeks. Patterson had 120 or more rushing yards in two of those games, scoring 21 or more fantasy points in both contests.
However, the former first-round pick suffered a knee injury in Week 3. While he tried to play through the injury the following week, it became clear that Patterson needed surgery.

Is Cordarrelle Patterson Healthy Or Injured?
The Falcons’ star running back underwent knee surgery after their Week 4 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Atlanta placed him on the injured reserve list shortly after, knocking him out for at least four weeks.
Earlier today, the Falcons designated Patterson to return to practice, giving the team 21 days to put him on the active roster. However, he could play as early as this weekend.
Is Cordarrelle Patterson A Must Start This Week?
If Patterson gets activated to the 53-man roster, the veteran running back is a must-start against the Los Angeles Chargers. They have surrendered 26.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game to running backs this season, the second-most in the NFL.
Furthermore, the Chargers have given up 896 rushing yards to the position this season, the fourth-most in the league. They have also surrendered at least 130 rushing yards and a touchdown to opposing running backs in four of their past five games.
Meanwhile, Tyler Allgeier is a borderline must-start running back this week if Patterson can’t play. Last week the rookie scored 16 half-point PPR fantasy points against the Carolina Panthers. He led all running backs on the team in touches and fantasy points while scoring his first career receiving touchdown.
While Caleb Huntley led the team with 91 rushing yards last week, Allgeier has been Atlanta’s lead running back with Patterson out of the lineup. The rookie from BYU has played 59.2% of the snaps over the past four weeks compared to 29.8% for Huntley.
If Patterson is active for the Falcons, he is a borderline top-10 running back this week. Meanwhile, Allgeier is a mid-RB2 if the veteran misses the game. The matchup against the Chargers is too appealing to pass up.
