Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet has not been an elite fantasy option at any point in his career, but he's been good enough to be on the fantasy radar every week. In 2023, he has already posted career-highs in receptions (70) and receiving yards (678) to go along with six touchdowns.
However, he's banged up heading into the Week 17 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, so we have his latest injury update.
Is Kmet playing against the Falcons on Sunday? What's his fantasy football outlook if he suits up? Let's dive in.

Cole Kmet Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Kmet (knee) did not practice for the second day in a row on Thursday. Kmet is nursing a knee injury suffered in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals. His early departure from that game spoiled a solid effort wherein he had four catches for 107 yards up to the point of his injury.
If Kmet is unable to play in Week 17 against the Arizona Cardinals, Marcedes Lewis (rest) and Robert Tonyan would see more time on the field and possibly earn extra targets. Neither backup should be trusted as a streamer for fantasy managers vying for a championship this weekend.
Cole Kmet Fantasy Football Outlook
While it appears Kmet is trending toward missing Week 17, there's a chance he will practice before the week is up and play against Atlanta. The Falcons have surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points per game to tight ends this year (10.37), so Kmet would be close to a must-start option at the scarce tight end spot.
His knee injury could limit him, but he's not likely to be active if the ailment is serious enough to risk further damage. Quarterback Justin Fields has impressed as a passer in recent weeks, and Kmet was beginning to heat up before being knocked out of action. Consider him a mid-to-low-end TE1 if he's officially active come Sunday.
