Chuba Hubbard Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Hubbard (hamstring) was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. However, there was never a significant amount of concern surrounding his status. Indeed, the 24-year-old was able to practice in a full capacity on Friday.
As a result of his full practice, Hubbard was removed from the injury report. He will play against the Jaguars in Week 17.
Chuba Hubbard Fantasy Football Outlook
Hubbard has looked incredible over his last five games, operating as the Panthers' clear No. 1 running back and even leading some fantasy managers deep into the fantasy playoffs. Over those five weeks, Hubbard owns a per-game average of 20.0 carries, 73.2 rushing yards, 2.0 catches, 18.0 receiving yards, and 0.8 touchdowns.
Interestingly, most of Hubbard's success came in the aftermath of the Panthers' decision to fire head coach Frank Reich and running back coach Duce Staley. He earned a career-high 25 carries in his first game after the firing and continues to play a major role on offense.
If there's one area of concern with Hubbard, it's that his receiving usage has declined since the midseason coaching change. He went from averaging 2.9 targets before Freich's firing to 1.3 targets after the former head coach was let go. With that said, Hubbard has double-digit fantasy points (PPR) in each of his last five games, so you won't find fantasy managers complaining any time soon.
Hubbard is safely in the mix as a strong RB2 option for Week 17. Despite the Panthers being the underdog, Hubbard projects to maintain significant usage out of the backfield against a Jacksonville defense surrendering 26.2 touches and 117.8 scrimmage yards per game to opposing running backs.
