New Orleans wide receiver Chris Olave’s concussions have concussed the playoff hopes of many of the fantasy football managers who rostered him this year.
The Saints speedster and undisputed WR1 has suffered two concussions this season, which ups his “official” number of career concussions to four. Olave is only in his third NFL season, so the amount of concussions is highly disconcerting for both his short-term and long-term health and fantasy value.
Olave is currently on the injured reserve list and can be activated this week, but he was also eligible to be activated last week, and the Saints decided against it. So is Olave out for the season, or is there a chance we might see him before the season’s end? Here is the latest:

Is Chris Olave Out For The Season?
Olave has not been officially ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season. It might just be a formality at this point, but New Orleans has not publicly said as of yet that he is not returning. So, as of now, there is a small glimmer of hope that he could get back on the field.
Olave has missed more than a month of games since suffering his second concussion, and although there have been signs that he is getting closer to returning, no return date has been announced or seems imminent.
Per Rizzi, WR Chris Olave is trying to get back in the swing of things, attending meetings, rehab and lifting as he’s allowed to. Not closing the door on his return at some point this season. #Saints

Chris Olave 2024 Fantasy Outlook
It is more than likely that we have seen the last of Olave for 2024. There is no reason for him to play now that the Saints are eliminated from playoff contention, and he is just playing out the string from here on out.
Fantasy footballers and fans must hope Olave is cleared to return for the 2025 NFL season. There has been no mention that his career could be in jeopardy or that he has considered hanging up his helmet and calling it a career early. Olave has appeared at Saints practice recently, although not to run routes or do anything strenuous.
Olave began his career with back-to-back 1,000-yard years and could have made it three straight if his concussions did not ruin his 2024 campaign. He remains a keeper in dynasty leagues, although he is no longer the sure thing he used to be because of his complicated concussion situation.
If Olave does come back triumphantly next season, he should regain his form and be the 1,000-yard receiver fantasy managers have grown to love, as long as New Orleans irons out some of their problems on offense. Adding another playmaker could open up things for Olave, or upgrading the quarterback position could improve Olave’s fantasy value, too.
Let’s hope we have not seen the last of Olave and that he is able to make a great comeback from this adversity. He is a talented wide receiver entering the prime of his career, so fantasy footballers would love to see him stick around for a series of 1,000-yard seasons.
