All of the hype in the world can't lead to prime performances on the field. It needs to be proven.
Caleb Williams is one of the most talked-about quarterback prospects to enter the NFL in the last decade. That doesn't always equate to NFL success, let alone success for fantasy football managers. Ask Trevor Lawrence.
Williams be an enticing name on fantasy football draft boards this summer but how does he stack up against other quarterbacks across the league?

Caleb Williams 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Think about how dominant C.J. Stroud was as a rookie last season. The Texans quarterback threw for the third-most yards by a rookie in NFL history. He was the QB10 in fantasy points per game (18.7).
That's probably the ceiling for Williams. The two play with a similar style: A strong arm with the ability to make precise throws on the run. Both can take off past the line of scrimmage but prefer to find someone open downfield. Stroud was gifted a strong receiving group (Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Dalton Schultz), as is Williams (Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Cole Kmet).
Where does the #Bears offense rank among the league’s best?
I can’t rank them too high since we haven’t seen them on the field together yet. But on paper, this could be a legit top-10 unit. pic.twitter.com/IrP5SarRXK

Still, history is against Williams. Dak Prescott (17.9 fantasy points per game), Kyler Murray (18.6), Justin Herbert (22.9), and Stroud are the only rookies in the last 10 seasons to finish as a QB1 in their debut seasons.
There is also a lot of elite quarterback talent across the NFL right now. With the emergence of Jordan Love and Stroud, Anthony Richardson back for his second year, and Murray another year removed from his ACL injury, new names are joining familiar faces at the top of the rankings. Even fellow rookie Jayden Daniels has more perceived upside because of his rushing ability.
Placing Williams inside of the top 12 on preseason rankings lists is a bit premature. He's better suited as a QB2 who can be used in a pinch when the matchup favors him, and he proves that he's adapted to the speed of the NFL game.
