Second-year quarterback Brock Purdy has been a revelation for the San Francisco 49ers. The former "Mr. Irrelevant" has been a crucial factor in San Fran's success across the past two seasons.
After missing the 2022 NFC Conference Championship game with an injury, Purdy started the 2023 campaign both healthy and sharp, leading the Niners to a 5-0 start.
However, Purdy and the Niners offense have sputtered a bit of late, dropping each of their last two games. To make matters worse, the Iowa State product was forced to enter the NFL's concussion protocol after the team's Monday night loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Is Purdy injured or healthy? What is his status for San Francisco's Week 8 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals? Should I start Brock Purdy in fantasy football?

Brock Purdy Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Purdy entered the NFL's concussion protocol following the Niners' Week 7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. It's suspected the injury was suffered on an attempted quarterback sneak.
This is likely the play in which #49ers QB Brock Purdy sustained the concussion.
It’s worth noting that the first pass after this was the first interception as well.

The second-year signal caller was thought to be a longshot to play in the team's Week 8 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, as very few players have progressed through the league's stricter concussion protocol within a week's time this season. However, Purdy somewhat shockingly returned to the San Francisco practice field on Thursday and has logged limited sessions since.
Today, Matt Barrows of The Athletic, reported that Purdy has cleared concussion protocol and no longer carries an injury designation ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Bengals. He is fully expected to be the team's starting quarterback in Week 8.

Brock Purdy Fantasy Football Outlook
While Purdy appears set to get the start against the Bengals in Week 8, his fantasy football outlook isn't as cut and dried. After opening the season on a tear and tossing nine TDs across San Fran's first five games, Purdy has found the paint just twice in the Niners' last two, while tossing three interceptions.
In addition to his health, Purdy will be without the services of both stud WR Deebo Samuel and star LT Trent Williams in Week 8. He'll also be facing a sneaky-tough Bengals pass defense that's only relinquished seven TDs this season and has allowed a passer rating of just 79.7 to opposing QBs through the first seven weeks of the year.
A defense that continues to get better and better every week 😤 #Bengals pic.twitter.com/BiwKBVZevQ

After his hot start to the season, Purdy enters Week 8 as the overall fantasy QB9. However, he should be considered well outside the top-10 fantasy quarterback options this week due to his health concerns, recent dip in production, and a tough matchup with the Bengals.
