So, when can we expect Cooks to get back into action for our fantasy lineups in 2024?
Will Brandin Cooks Start for the Cowboys When He Returns?
Dallas usually fields a solid offensive attack, but this year they’ve been leaking oil, and Cooks hasn’t been able to find his rhythm in this system. For fantasy managers who drafted him hoping for some flex or WR3 value, it’s been a disappointing season.

To make matters worse, quarterback Dak Prescott is currently on injured reserve, and there’s growing concern that if the team continues its downward slide, Dak could be shut down for the rest of the year. Without Prescott, the Cowboys’ passing game has lost its punch, and Cooks' potential upside is seriously limited.
The backup situation with Cooper Rush and Trey Lance likely won't be able to replicate Dak’s production, making it harder for Cooks—or any Cowboys receiver—to find consistency. For now, it’s a waiting game, but the outlook isn’t promising if Prescott remains sidelined.
Brandin Cooks Fantasy Football Outlook
Cooks was once a reliable fantasy asset, known for his speed and big-play ability, and he bounced around the league as a productive receiver despite numerous team changes. But at 31 years old, on a struggling offense, and dealing with injuries, it feels like his best days might be behind him.
The quickness and separation ability that made him a standout in his prime haven’t been on display, and it’s fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank.

For fantasy managers, it’s time to temper expectations with Cooks. Even if he returns soon, the situation in Dallas doesn’t lend itself to much fantasy upside, especially with the uncertainty at quarterback.
Cooks is more of a bench stash or emergency option than someone you can trust week in and week out. As much as he’s been a staple in fantasy football over the years, it’s looking like 2024 might be the season to move on if you need a consistent producer.
