Wide receiver Amari Cooper was traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Cleveland Browns last offseason, and the four-time Pro Bowler had a solid year. He had 78 catches for 1,160 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns in 17 games in 2022.
Deshaun Watson will now be the Browns' starting quarterback for the entire 2023 season. So big things could be in store for Cooper. The wideout did leave training camp early on Sunday with an injury and didn't return. He also didn't practice on the field with the team on Monday.
Is Cooper injured or healthy? What is his fantasy outlook this season? Let's dive in.
Is Amari Cooper Injured Or Healthy?
Cooper left Browns training camp early on Sunday with an apparent injury. The team did not specify which part of the body the veteran wide receiver hurt, but General Manager Andrew Berry did say it was a "minor tweak." The 29-year-old wideout also missed the team's minicamp earlier this offseason after undergoing core muscle surgery in February.
Cooper's injury doesn't seem to be much of a concern, and he should be returning to training camp shortly. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski spoke to the media before Monday's practice about the veteran's availability and said, "I hate to say it will be a few days because [Cooper] is feeling good." Berry also said his injury on Sunday had nothing to do with his core muscle surgery.
The wideout didn't practice with the team on the field on Monday but was working out on the side and seemed to be in good spirits. He is currently listed as day-to-day.
Amari Cooper 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook
Many fantasy managers might have hesitated to draft the new Browns wideout last season. Watson was suspended 11 games, and quarterback Jacoby Brissett was the team's starter to begin the year. However, Cooper put together a strong fantasy campaign.
He finished as the WR10 in PPR formats and the WR8 in non-PPR leagues. Cooper averaged 14.53 PPR fantasy points per game last season with six games over 20 PPR points.
Cooper could easily maintain similar production in 2023. The former Alabama alum has finished as a top-15 wide receiver in PPR formats in three of the last four seasons. His "minor tweak" injury suffered in Sunday's training camp shouldn't hurt his availability in Week 1, and he'll be a fantasy WR2 with WR1 upside in a solid Browns offense this year.
