Las Vegas Raiders running back Alexander Mattison has had an up-and-down season fantasy-wise in 2024. He's combined weeks of low, single-digit scoring with nice double-digit performances and has not shown much consistency in between. He's one of the tougher codes to crack for fantasy managers this season.
He has two games scoring under 6.2 PPR fantasy points but four in which he's tallied 10 or more. He's been a frustrating player to manage, and his role in the offense has been unpredictable to this point. Things may smooth out and become less chaotic with Mattison as the season goes on.
So is Alexander Mattison a good fantasy football pickup for Week 7?

What Did Alexander Mattison Do In Week 6?
This was the second game that depth chart-topping backfield mate Zamir White (groin) missed due to injury, and the former Viking once again capitalized by handling 14 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown and five receptions for 32 yards. He's now scored 10.1 and 17.5 PPR fantasy points in his last two games.

Despite the solid fantasy numbers, Mattison shares a problem with White -- neither have been particularly efficient runners. The sixth-year-veteran now averages just 3.4 yards per carry on the season. "Zeus" has been even worse, tallying 3.1 yards per carry in the four games he played before injury.
Without Zamir White the last two weeks, Alexander Mattison has had a running back rush share per game rate of 74.3%. With Zamir White, that number is 25.1%.

It was encouraging to see Mattison have a big role in the absence of his teammate, but the poor rushing average likely shows that he's failed to distinguish himself as a pure runner in this backfield. Unfortunately, once White's injury clears up, we may see the rushing attempts handled as a committee yet again.
Is Alexander Mattison A Good Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickup In Week 7?
In full-PPR, he's a player who should probably be rostered. In standard, he may not be worth it. The pass-catching upside is nice, and he handles the vast majority of targets in the RB room. The lack of rushing attempts might not be that impactful, since each back earns so few yards per carry, but missing snaps means missing passing-game opportunities.
Week 6 RB route participation rates:
(Pre MNF)72% — Tyrone Tracy
70% — Chuba Hubbard
65% — Bucky Irving
63% — Josh Jacobs
60% — Alvin Kamara
60% — Tony Pollard
60% — Bijan Robinson
60% — Austin Ekeler
59% — Alexander Mattison
59% — Javonte Williams
58% — Kenneth Walker
56% —…— Jacob Gibbs (@jagibbs_23) October 14, 2024
The hope with him is that he retains his route participation, and thus continues to get plenty of opportunity to work as a receiver. That should help boost his upside the most. A few more touchdowns wouldn't hurt, either.
