Following their disappointing loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, the Detroit Lions lost their offensive coordinator and play-caller. Ben Johnson was hired as Chicago’s new head coach earlier this week.
Detroit still has their defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn, under contract. However, Glenn is considered a finalist for several head coaching jobs, and Lions coach Dan Campbell has said he expects to lose both coordinators this offseason.
That sure sounds like Glenn will be on the move very soon. So, let’s take a few minutes and discuss the latest news surrounding Detroit’s defensive coordinator.

Is Aaron Glenn leaving the Detroit Lions?
Based on Campbell’s comments, it sounds like Glenn will get his first crack at being an NFL head coach. He would be a wise pick for any team with an opening. Glenn has a reputation for being a strong leader and has done a great job leading Detroit's defense. Even after suffering a slew of injuries down the stretch this past season, the Lions still finished fifth in overall defensive DVOA per FTN Fantasy.

Where will Aaron Glenn coach in 2025?
Glenn is set for an in-person interview with the New York Jets and appears to be one of the finalists for the job. He played for New York for eight seasons and was also an All-Pro while playing there, so this seems like it could be a good fit for both sides.

The New Orleans Saints are also in play for Glenn as he is expected to meet for an in-person interview with them as well. New Orleans has a lot of work to do before becoming competitive. They are hamstrung by salary cap issues and can’t get out of Derek Carr’s contract until 2026.
Both of these teams have question marks. Their quarterback situations are less than ideal, but Glenn could be just what these struggling franchises need. He could still land a job elsewhere and is a candidate for other head coaching gigs. As of right now, though, the Jets and Saints seem like the favorites. However, one thing does look certain. Glenn’s days in Detroit are all but done.
