ANALYSIS: Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. has been emerging as a dynamic playmaker for the offense lately and could be on the verge of a breakout season.
Over his last two games, Smith has eight catches for 119 yards on 10 targets. He has been second on the team in receiving yards in each of his past two games.
The Vikings were extremely conservative with their play-calling to start the year. Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw 27 or fewer passes in each of the team's first four games. However, they've opened up a bit lately as Cousins has averaged 37.5 passing attempts over his past two games. The emergence of electrifying rookie receiver Justin Jefferson has allowed the offense to take on a new identity and if the team continues to lean into it, Smith should benefit greatly as well.
Add Smith in leagues of 14 teams or deeper. He should see some opportunities to make plays in the team's Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers. Consider him a low-end TE1 with upside going forward.
