The 2024 NFL Draft is less than a month away. There will be 257 players selected in this year’s draft.
Every year, the NFL Draft community debates how many quarterbacks will get drafted in the first round. Last year, there were three quarterbacks to come off the board in the first four picks – Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Anthony Richardson. However, Will Levis and Hendon Hooker were Day 2 picks despite getting plenty of first-round hype.
Sometimes, there are awful quarterback draft classes. Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback to get drafted in the first two rounds in 2022, coming off the board with the 20th pick in the first round. Let’s look at how many quarterbacks could get drafted on Day 1 this year.

Which Quarterbacks Are First-Round Locks?
Caleb Williams is a lock to go first overall to the Chicago Bears after the team traded away Justin Fields. Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye are heavy favorites to be the next two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many believe the Washington Commanders will draft Daniels second overall. Maye should be the third overall pick in the draft.
However, will he get picked by the New England Patriots, or will a team like the Minnesota Vikings trade up to third overall for the former North Carolina star?
Furthermore, J.J. McCarthy is a first-round lock. The National Champion winner has gone from a borderline first-round pick to a top-10 prospect. Many believe a team like the Vikings or Denver Broncos will trade up to the fourth or fifth overall pick to draft McCarthy. The New York Giants reportedly will select the former Michigan star if he is on the board, with their pick sixth overall.
Latest odds to be the No. 4 overall pick, per @FanDuel.

Which Quarterbacks Could Get Drafted In The First Round?
Four quarterbacks are guaranteed to get drafted in the first round in likely the top six picks. Meanwhile, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix have a realistic chance to come off the board on Day 1. Their draft range starts at 11th overall with the Vikings (assuming they don’t trade up for a quarterback).
The Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, and Dallas Cowboys are three teams that could potentially draft Penix or Nix. All three teams have a starter in place for next season but have questions about their starter in 2025 and beyond.
Penix and Nix aren’t elite prospects like the top quarterbacks in this draft class. Yet, both quarterbacks have been outstanding the past few years.
Power 5 QBs most total touchdowns over the last two seasons:
1. Bo Nix (94)
2. Caleb Williams (93)
3. Jayden Daniels (78)
4. Drake Maye (77)
5. Michael Penix Jr. (74)— Ian Hartitz (@Ihartitz) March 29, 2024
