Don't look now, but Gary Barnidge (TE, Cleveland Browns) is lighting up the fantasy football scoreboards. Quarterback Josh McCown the past three weeks has completed passes to Barnidge early and often and has become one of McCown's favorite targets. Not bad for the former 5th round pick from Louisville in 2008 who has been a no-name until this year. In three weeks Barnidge has put up tremendous numbers with 20 catches for 319 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Barnidge has put up monster statistics fantasy football-wise, but he has also made two amazing/juggling/acrobatic catches at the goal line for the Browns in consecutive weeks respectively. One of the incredible catches also turned out to be a pivotal touchdown in the second half of the game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.
It is clear that he has become an important factor in Cleveland's offense. He's ranked 3rd overall among tight ends, yet only owned just over 50% of leagues. Look for Barnidge to continue to be consistent, and snatch him up immediately if he is still available in your league. Plug him right into your starting lineup as an elite TE1 for Week 6 and moving forward.
