Jose Butto - SP, New York Mets
Level: Triple-A
2022 stats: 27 G, 25 GS, 127.9 IP, 7-6, 3.54 ERA, .292 BABIP, 9.64 K/9, 3.12 BB/9
Butto joined the Mets on a mere $5,000 signing bonus back in 2017. The right-hander from Venezuela sits in the mid-90s with his fastball but has an even better changeup that sets up his heater quite nicely.
He has boasted good control and has the makings of a mid-rotation staple as soon as 2023. For what it's worth, the 24-year-old did make one big-league appearance this year, surrendering seven runs and two homers through just four innings.
Butto fared much better at Triple-A this past week. His last outing came on Wednesday when he tossed seven innings of scoreless baseball. His final line included two hits, one walk, and a whopping 11 strikeouts.
Dominic Canzone - OF/1B, Arizona Diamondbacks
Level: Triple-A
2022 stats: 103 G, .300/.370/.550, 22 HR, 89 RBI, 80 R, .331 BABIP, 8.8 BB%, 20.0 K%
The Diamondbacks selected Canzone in the eighth round of the 2019 draft. The Ohio State product plays a blend of outfield and first base, and while he has a solid glove, his arm ranks well below average.
Still, Canzone's bat has looked quite impressive, so don't be surprised if the Diamondbacks find a permanent defensive home for Canzone (either at first base or in left field) just to insert his offensive production into the lineup. Most notably, the 25-year-old has demonstrated fantastic power while posting solid walk and strikeout rates.
Canzone impressed through five games in the minors this past week, going 8-for-20 (.400) with four homers, nine RBI, three walks, and just two strikeouts. His best game came last Tuesday as he went yard twice and stroked two singles.
Davis Daniel - SP, Los Angeles Angels
Level: Triple-A
2022 stats: 20 GS, 98.1 IP, 6-6, 4.48 ERA, .261 BABIP, 37.7 GB%, 7.14 K/9, 2.75 BB/9
Daniel has the tools of a long-term rotation piece in the majors, boasting a great mid-90s fastball with movement. He has also harnessed his curveball and slider quite well, showing that both of his breaking offerings can be lethal put-away pitches late in the count. His repertoire rounds out with a subpar changeup.
Command-wise, Daniel found success pounding the strike zone in college and his first pro season, but his strikeout numbers have dipped significantly in 2022. On a positive note, his control remains solid; Daniel's 2.75 BB/9 exceeds expectations.
Daniel was effective in his start last Monday, delivering 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball. In addition to holding the Sacramento River Cats to just two hits and zero walks, he struck out four batters. Daniel joined the MLB roster earlier in 2022 but never pitched in a game. That should change in 2023 as the Angels need pitching help and the right-hander continues to show potential.
