ANALYSIS: Herb Jones was forced out of a few games at the end of December going through health and safety protocols but he returned in time for the New Year's Eve matchup against the Grizzlies, having a nice 4-11-3-3 performance facing Memphis to cap the 2022 calendar year.
Truth be told, the double-digit rebounds were a sight to behold and a true outlier on Jones' season-long game logs. It's the first time he grabbed more than nine boards in a single game, and just the second he pulled down more than seven. Even then, though, Jones can do a little bit of everything on a nightly basis and that's why he's very appealing.
Jones has had a bit of a rough return from those health issues at the end of last year. It's been four January games through Saturday for him, and only yesterday did he top 21 FP. Jones, though, is coming off the best game of his season to date, having finished Saturday's matchup against Dallas with 16 points, six boards, five steals (!), one dime, and one block.
Those numbers are odd but so is Jones. He doesn't assist many baskets (2+ APG) nor grab many boards (almost 4.0 RPG) but he is adept at stealing possessions (1.5 SPG) and has shown some very nice shot-blocking prowess (0.7 BPG).
This season, only two players (Tari Eason and Ben Simmons) have as many steals as Herb Jones (43) while having played no more than 800 minutes. Only one (Eason) has as many blocks (20) as Jones (19) on top of that, but Eason falls way below Jones in the assists department with 34 to Jones' 60 through the year.
If you need steals and blocks, Jones can give you both. So much so that only two players are currently averaging 1.5+ SPG and 0.7+ BPG over the full season while having played 800+ minutes: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and OG Anunoby. Bet you can find any of those two still available in your league's waiver wire.
