BALLER MOVE: Draft Target in Middle Rounds
ANALYSIS: One of the biggest pitching breakouts of 2014 was Henderson Alvarez. Last season, he went 12-7 with 2.65 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 18 quality starts in 30 opportunities. He did so well that he will be handed the ball on opening day for the Miami Marlins.
According to the Marlins manager, Mike Redmond, Alvarez has struggled some this spring, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to fall back to fantasy irrelevance following his first great season in the majors. He is 24 years old, which means he has plenty of room to improve. And with a current ADP of 252, Alvarez can return a huge profit on your draft day investment.
He’s not going to be a keeper in most keeper leagues, but keep an eye on him throughout your drafts. The Marlins are a young team, and are looking to improve on the 77-85 season. Alvarez will be at the top of the starting rotation, as the young phenom Jose Fernandez still recovers from Tommy John surgery. Alvarez can be a steal for your fantasy teams in the mid-to-late rounds of your drafts, so don't be afraid to add him to your team.
