Analysis: Hector Neris currently holds a 2.96 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 10.0 K/9, and four total saves out of the Philadelphia bullpen. His last save was on May 14th and since that day, Neris has shined despite his lack of save opportunities. In those last 6.2 IP he has a 0.00 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 13.5 K/9. These trends are all remarkably similar to Neris's 2016 season with the Phillies in which he held figures of: 2.58 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 11.4 K/9 in 80.1 IP despite accumulating just two saves.
The Phillies may be just 17-34, but plenty of save opportunities will still come around as is natural in the course of a 162 game season. Though guys like Joaquin Benoit and Pat Neshek occupy the Philadelphia relief staff, expect Neris to get first dibs on the eventual save opportunities and based on his performance from the mound of late, expect him to capitalize.
