Hector Neris is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for closers and saves in Week 7 (2024). Neris is a good free agent waiver wire add for saves leagues.

ANALYSIS: The Chicago Cubs have recently shifted ninth-inning duties to veteran reliever Hector Neris, making him a must-add in all formats.
Last season, Neris, who was on the Houston Astros, was one of the best relievers in baseball, posting a dominant 1.71 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 68 ⅓ innings with 77 strikeouts.
Hector Neris opened the season as the set-up man in the North Side of Chicago, but after Adbert Alzolay blew several save opportunities, manager Craig Counsell gave the closer role to the 34-year-old.
This season, Neris has a 3.00 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 11 punchouts across 12 ⅓ innings. Since being assigned ninth-inning duties, Neris has posted a much better 1.50 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across six innings, including going 5-5 in save opportunities.

However, Neris does have some alarming underlying metrics, such as a hefty 7.15 xERA and .280 xBA. Nonetheless, until these metrics begin to affect his in-game performance, Neris is a must-add simply due to the number of save opportunities he will get on a team competing for a division title.
