ANALYSIS: Who’s been responsible for Miami’s 3 wins in their last 5 games? Not Wade, not Bosh, it’s been the Hassan Whiteside show in Miami. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, Whiteside is by no means an all-star, but he has definitely been making a case for one of the top big men in the NBA as of late. Whiteside is statistically the NBA’s best blocker as of late, as well as one of the best rebounders, and an extremely efficient shooter. Over the last 5 games, Whiteside has been posting averages of 13.8 Points, 11 Rebounds, 3.8 Blocks, 71.4 FT%, and 71.1 FG%. Whiteside is only just now becoming part of the Heat’s rotation, so these numbers could get even better over the course of the NBA Season.
Whiteside’s resurgence cannot go unnoticed. The former second-round pick is 10th in the NBA with his 26.0 PER. When it comes to blocking efficiency, Whiteside is literally the best in the NBA. He is 1st in blocks per 36 Minutes (4.7), and 1st in BLK% (11.5%). Not just a one-trick-pony either, he provides solid production in all facets of a big man’s game. His rebounding numbers are also among the best in the league. Whiteside is 4th in the league in both Defensive Rebounds per 36 Minutes (11.1), and DRB% (38.0%). The Marshall prospect is also 7th in the NBA in Rebounds Per 36 (14.0) and 6th in TRB% (25.3%). Aside from his blocks and rebounds, Whiteside is a very efficient shooter with a True Shooting Percentage of 65.2%.
Hassan Whiteside has been given a great opportunity in Miami with their lack of frontcourt depth. Whiteside just recently made his first career start over Chris Andersen, so there is much more to come from him in the future. If the Heat big man keeps getting consistent minutes, his blocking, rebounding, and shooting ability could warrant Top-70, maybe even Top-60 value, although that might be slightly optimistic.
