Grichuk (Elbow) Starts Wednesday, Bats Fifth

Randall Grichuk returns to the starting lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs, according to the Cardinals Twitter account.

It was originally believed that the St. Louis centerfielder would only come off the bench because his injured elbow wasn’t healthy enough for him to play and throw in the outfield. Apparently that’s not the case because Grichuk will be batting fifth behind Jhonny Peralta on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old rookie missed 18 games before he returned to pinch-hit on Monday. Grichuk drew a walk on Monday, but actually had two at-bats on Tuesday, which included a homer. There were no problems in the field, which might have allowed the team to give him a chance to play nine innings in the field on Wednesday.

Grichuk played in only 47 games last season, which makes him eligible as a rookie still this season. In 87 games this year, he owns a .287 BA with 16 HR and 46 RBI.
