ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens had high expectations this season after his solid rookie year. Unfortunately, the former Georgia star has struggled alongside the Steelers’ offense. The second-year player is the WR33 for the season, averaging 9.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He has 44 receptions on 78 targets for 748 receiving yards and three touchdowns this year.
Pickens was outstanding during the four games Diontae Johnson missed with a hamstring injury. He averaged 14.5 fantasy points per game, totaling 20 or more twice. However, the second-year player has struggled with Johnson on the field. Pickens has scored more than 8.7 fantasy points only twice, with the veteran wide receiver playing this season.
Meanwhile, the young receiver faces the New England Patriots in Week 14. New England has surrendered 29.3 fantasy points per game to wide receivers this year, slightly above the league average. However, they have held wide receivers to 24.9 fantasy points per game over their past three matchups, including 19.8 to the Los Angeles Chargers unit last week.
Fantasy players should avoid starting Pickens this week, especially with Mitch Trubisky under center for the injured Kenny Pickett.
