BALLER MOVE: Start in 12+ Team Two-Quarterback Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: QB2
ANALYSIS: Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is dealing with a tricep contusion, but the Seahawks expect Smith to play on Thursday when the team takes on the San Francisco 49ers. He is officially listed as questionable.
Smith hasn't been as good as he was in 2022 when he led the NFL in completion percentage, but he's still had a solid year at the helm for Seattle. Smith is completing 65.3% of his pass attempts with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The biggest place where Smith's numbers have dropped might be in his rushing, as he's gone from 21.5 rushing yards per game last season to 6.5 per game this year.
This week, Smith rates as a low-end QB2 play in fantasy leagues for a couple of reasons. One is that he just lacks upside, with Smith failing to throw for more than two touchdowns in any game so far this season.
The other is the matchup. The 49ers allow the third-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. The only teams allowing fewer are the Ravens and Browns. It's hard to trust any quarterback against a defense as good as this San Francisco one.
