The NASCAR Cup Series ran a single practice session at the Chicago Street Course on Saturday afternoon in preparation for the Grant Park 220 race on Sunday evening.
The field was split into two groups for this practice session.
Below you'll find the two practice groups, key notes from the practice session and the practice speeds for all drivers.
Important Practice Notes
Several drivers had issues during practice, which shouldn't be too surprising for anybody because the Chicago Street Course is a brand new track and very difficult to navigate.
Shane Van Gisbergen - Making his NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend is Shane Van Gisbergen. He's a Super Car driver and he's in the #91 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing this weekend. He was very fast in practice and said his car felt perfect.
Jenson Button - Jenson Button ran at COTA earlier this year and was able to come home with an 18th-place finish despite being in a Rick Ware Racing car. He looked fast here at the Chicago Street Course as well, posting the 3rd-fastest lap in practice.
William Byron – Byron got into the wall hard about 15 minutes into practice and the team had to make repairs. He was able to get on track later in the session and ended up 14th-fastest.
Austin Cindric – Somewhat surprisingly due to his road course racing history, Austin Cindric wasn't able to find much speed during practice. It didn't help that he crashed about halfway through the session, either. His car didn't get significant damage, though.
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. - Stenhouse crashed into the wall hard about halfway through practice. The #47 team decided to repair the car but they weren't able to make a qualifying run because of that. Stenhouse was 35th-fastest in practice.
Justin Haley - Justin Haley got into the tire barrier during practice and, like Stenhouse, wasn't able to complete a lap during qualifying. He was able to post the 26th-fastest lap in practice, though.
