ANALYSIS: Garrett Whitlock has long been recognized as a pitcher with a very talented arm. During the 2022 season, he spent some time in the MLB rotation but mostly worked out of the bullpen. He even functioned as the Red Sox closer for a bit of time.
Unfortunately for Whitlock, he was never fully healthy when in the rotation. He ended up spending a good amount of time on the IL and in rehab appearances working his way back. That made 2022 a lost season for his fantasy value, but he is looking to reclaim fantasy relevance in 2023.
He got a late start to the year, but he's now back in the rotation and he's made two starts for the Red Sox. In his most recent outing, he stifled a fully healthy Angels lineup to the tune of seven innings and allowed just one run. He has a decent sinker to lead his pitch arsenal, but backing that up seems to be one of the better breaking balls in the entire league.
There is no doubting Whitlock's talent, which gives him a ton of upside for your fantasy team. It also really helps to see him already being efficient and getting deep into games. Whitlock is a buy for most league types right now, so get him while you can!
