Welcome to Gameweek 17, RotoBallers! This is our third year covering FPL, and we are bringing you more coverage than ever. We publish two weekly articles: a staff roundtable preview and our weekly rankings. Then, once a month, we have our newest report, The Watchlist, a review of the previous month and a look ahead to the upcoming fixtures.
Sixteen gameweeks down, 22 to go. After plowing through three gameweeks in nine days, we settle in FPL for a regular routine until Gameweek 18. There's more European midweek action on the cards, so beware of making early transfers unless it will price you out of your plans. Erling Haaland is the biggest question ahead of Gameweek 17, so watching Pep Guardiola's press conference is appointment viewing on Friday afternoon.
The Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 17 deadline is 1:30 PM ET on Friday, December 15, when Nottingham Forest entertains Tottenham. Also, look out for the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every English Premier League, Major League Soccer, and UEFA Champions League slate from a DFS and betting perspective.
Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek 17 Rankings
Our weekly rankings highlight players who could be worth a punt in your Fantasy Premier League squad. While the rankings will be filled with familiar names, a low-owned player with an easy fixture will rise up the one-week charts. For each gameweek, we will provide our top 15 goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards. These can also be applied as DFS rankings for your weekend contests.
Gameweek 16 Fantasy Premier League High Scorers
- Goalkeeper: Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa & Jordan Pickford, Everton - 10 points
- Defender: Marcos Senesi, Bournemouth - 15 points
- Midfielder: Son Heung-min, Spurs - 17 points
- Forward: Richarlison, Spurs - 15 points
FPL Goalkeepers - Gameweek 17 Rankings
- Despite shipping four goals versus Tottenham, Martin Dubravka came away with two FPL points. That's because of the seven saves he made on Sunday afternoon. Fulham is scoring goals for fun but isn't as deadly as Tottenham's attack. With Newcastle at home and looking to bounce back from their Champions League exit, a clean sheet for Dubravaka is in the cards.
- Jordan Pickford has three clean sheets on the bounce and now visits Burnley in a revenge game for Everton's manager, Sean Dyche. Pickford doesn't do any exceptionally well, but the Toffees' defense is quite sticky at the moment, and a fourth clean sheet in a row wouldn't raise any FPL eyebrows.

FPL Defenders - Gameweek 17 Rankings
- With Keiran Trippier (suspension) out this weekend, Pedro Porro will likely be the most rostered defender amongst active (AKA still playing) managers. The Spanish wingback has four assists in his last five games and meets a Nottingham Forest side that allowed five goals against Fulham last week and three versus Brighton in its previous home contest.

FPL Midfielders - Gameweek 17 Rankings
- Mohamed Salah averaged 18 FPL points in his last four home tilts against Manchester United. With Erling Haaland (foot) potentially on the shelf, the Egyptian will be the most popular Captain for Gameweek 17. Salah comes away with double returns even when he plays poorly, like last weekend against Crystal Palace.
- If Erling Haaland (foot) misses the contest versus Crystal Palace, Phil Foden is a significant beneficiary. The English midfielder can strike the ball with the best of them and pop up with a couple of goals occasionally. With Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne injured, Foden and Julian Alvarez can team up to share the spotlight at Man City.

FPL Forwards - Gameweek 17 Rankings
- Dominic Solanke is banging in goals for fun over the last few gameweeks and gets a home matchup with Luton Town for Gameweek 17. Bournemouth is playing better now than earlier in the year and doesn't seem to rely on Solanke as much. Still, the English forward is the tip of the spear for the Cherries and is the most likely to score on Saturday afternoon.
- It would be typical for Darwin Nunez to provide three subpar performances in a row, then, as everyone sells him, he bags a brace. It's one goal in his last 10 league games, but he scored versus Man United in last year's fixture. Jurgen Klopp is dying for the Uruguayan to hit a purple patch, and a game versus a wounded Red Devils squad is precisely what Nunez needs.
