Today's MLB Betting Picks - Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Guardians
O/U: 8 | Moneyline: CHW -150
CHI: Lance Lynn| CLE: Hunter Gaddis
You know the pickings are slim when I have to suck it up and invest money in the White Sox! This team has let me down so many times this year, whether it be when I've stacked them in DFS or just bet outright on them to win or cover. But that trend turned around a little in the last month as they've perked up a little down the stretch.
Lance Lynn takes the hill for the Chi-Sox and has truly been their ace the last two months. Back on July 23rd, he blanked this Cleveland team over six innings and it really was the beginning of a stretch that turned his season around entirely. Before that game, he had an ERA of 7.50 and it looked bleak for Lynn, but since then he's made 10 starts and compiled a record of 5-2 with an ERA of 2.05 and 72 strikeouts in 61 innings.
The Guardians are rolling with the rookie Gaddis, who was lit up in his MLB debut. That doesn't mean he's not good, rather just that he probably wasn't really ready to come up to the majors just yet. The 24-year-old started the year in AA and pitched really well there, but made only 7 starts at AAA before being called up really only because of how short-handed Cleveland has been with pitching at the back end of their rotation. He doesn't throw overly hard with his fastball sitting 93-94 MPH and he's throwing it around 60% of the time, which probably explains why he got blasted in his first start.
It's tough finding value on this card, but the White Sox to win on the road here is still a decent -150. I think they do as Lynn continues to carry them on his back in his starts and this offense should be able to give him some run support behind the red-hot hitting of Eloy Jimenez.
Pick: CHI ML (-150), DraftKings Sportsbook

Today's MLB Betting Picks - Oakland Athletics @ Houston Astros
O/U: 8 | Moneyline: HOU -330
OAK: James Kaprielian | HOU: Lance McCullers Jr.
This game is possibly the most lopsided of any game today and the Astros are the biggest favorites on the board at a whopping -330. The Athletics are bigger underdogs here than even the Pirates against the Mets or the Reds in St. Louis!
A lot of that has to do with the pitching mismatch here. McCullers always makes me a tad nervous with those walks, but he's still been very effective as he's gone 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA over his first five starts since returning to the rotation in August. He blanked Oakland over six frames in his first start of the year allowing only two hits and four walks in that outing.
Kaprielian is pitching for Oakland, and after a short stretch in July where he looked like he could be getting it turned around, he's back to getting blasted regularly with an ERA over 6 in his last five starts. This Houston offense is loaded and should present him with quite the challenge today. And Oakland's bullpen has been trending down, likely from being overworked and having to pitch a lot of innings as Oakland starters haven't lasted long in their outings.
I'll take the Astros to cover the run line here at home. McCullers should pitch well and the Athletics have few lefties (other than Seth Brown) that he has to worry about. And I think it's quite likely that Kaprielian's struggles continue here against such a balanced, patient, and talented Houston lineup.
Pick: HOU -1.5 (-145), DraftKings Sportsbook
