Today's MLB Betting Picks - Detroit Tigers vs. Philadelphia Phillies
O/U: 8 | Moneyline: PHI (-250)
DET: Tyler Holton| PHI: Zack Wheeler
Following Wednesday's postponement, the Phillies and Tigers get right back at it Thursday as the Phils look to get the brooms out and sweep the Tigers away in this one.
The Tigers are dealing with injuries all of the place right now but their offense has simply been a dumpster fire of late. The club has scored just six runs over its last five games and things don't figure to get any easier against Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler.
Wheeler enters this one sporting a 4.33 ERA but expect things to get better as he also owns a 2.85 FIP and a 3.51 SIERA across 12 starts on the season. The veteran owns a stout 21.4% K% on the campaign while his 26.9% K% should bode well against a Tigers offense that has struck out a ton of late.
Reese Olson was the scheduled pitcher for the Tigers before Wednesday's postponement but it's left-hander Tyler Holton who will open this one for the road side. Holton -- a reliever -- sports an excellent 2.32 ERA on the season but also a 3.93 FIP and 4.08 SIERA that combine to suggest regression is on the horizon. This is essentially a bullpen game for Detroit as they attempt to tip-toe their way through a dangerous Phillies offense.
There's just no way you can support this Tigers ball club right now. Injuries have decimated both the offense and pitching staff and they ride a five-game losing streak into this one as a result. The Phillies should smell blood here and take care of a reeling opponent as they should be able to take care of the Tigers by at least two runs in this one tonight.
Pick: Phillies run line -1.5 (-125, DraftKings sportsbook)

Today's MLB Betting Picks - New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves
O/U: 8.5 | Moneyline: ATL (-175)
NYM: Justin Verlander | ATL: Spencer Strider
It's another key clash between NL East rivals tonight as the Atlanta Braves play host to the New York Mets in the series finale from Truist Park in Atlanta.
It's certainly an intriguing pitching matchup with two right-handers at the opposite end of their respective careers. Getting the ball for the Mets is 40-year-old Justin Verlander who hasn't had his best stuff this season given his 4.25 ERA and diminished 20.5% K% across six starts. The future Hall of Famer appears to deserve every bit of that elevated ERA figure considering his 4.54 FIP and 4.35 SIERA while home runs have been an issue given his 1.50 HR/9.
At the same time, we have a budding superstar toeing the rubber for the Braves in the form of Spencer Strider. The electric 24-year-old boasts a 2.97 ERA on the campaign but also a 2.60 FIP and a 2.63 SIERA that confirm his dominance. Of course, he racks up punchouts in bunches as evidenced by his 40.6% K% which leads to a stellar 31.3% K-BB% on the season.
A big blow for the Mets will likely be the absence of slugger Pete Alonso who took a pitch off the hand Wednesday night. X-rays returned negative but expect Alonso to get a breather on Thursday. His absence is one of a few reasons why we could see a low-scoring affair on Thursday.
Verlander has been fairly pedestrian this season but remains capable. Strider has been filthy and will take on an Alonso-less Mets offense that sits 16th with a .313 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. He's backed by a bullpen that ranks 10th with a 3.77 ERA and fifth with a 3.73 FIP.
Let's spice things up with a same game parlay! Add the Braves on the moneyline to the under and let's play ball!
Pick: Same Game Parlay: Under 8.5 + Braves moneyline (+190, DraftKings sportsbook)
Good luck, folks!
