BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 32% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Toronto Blue Jays middle infielder Freddy Galvis is having a career-best season across just about every measure and has started off the month of August red hot with two home runs and a 1.346 OPS through five games. On the year, he is slashing .273/.306/.456 with 18 home runs, 54 RBI and 54 runs over 109 games.
There have been a few different reasons for Galvis's new-found success this season. 2019 has seen Galvis reach career-best marks in barrel rate (4.9%), exit velocity (87.9) and hard-hit rate (36.1%), with the latter stat being a significant increase from 2018 (28.5%). He ranks amongst the bottom 10% of the league in xwOBA (.281) and walk rate (4.7%), which are concerning metrics for his batting average, but there's little reason to doubt that his power outbreak is real.
The Blue Jays have started to come alive a bit offensively now that several of their top prospects have made their long-awaited arrivals and are starting to perform at a solid level. Galvis should have more run-producing opportunities going forward and if he stays hot, he could give you a big boost in RBI while hitting in the heart of the Blue Jays' order. Add him in AL-only leagues and leagues of 12 teams or more. In more shallow mixed leagues, he's a viable option as well if you have a spot to fill.
