Dynasty Sells - Tight Ends to Trade Away in Fantasy Football Dynasty Leagues

Jonnu Smith - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Which tight ends should you sell ahead of the 2025 NFL season? Justin Carter breaks down five TEs that are worth trade away in 2025 dynasty fantasy football.

I know, I know. Your dynasty fantasy football teams are like your children. You want to hold on to the players who you've had on your roster for years. But if you want to actually win going forward, you have to sell some of those players away when the time is right.

This offseason, the time is right for a number of tight ends around the league. From veterans who probably won't be getting any better to younger players who project to be one-hit wonders, here are some names you should be selling on in the 2025 offseason.

Read on to see five tight ends that fantasy managers should sell this offseason.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns

It's hard to believe that David Njoku has played eight NFL seasons already. He still feels relatively young, but he's actually got 106 NFL games under his belt.

After 2021, it looked like Njoku was starting the slow downward slide that happens with non-star players. Then, somehow, he pulled out of that trajectory. Three of his four best seasons by yards have come over the past three seasons.

It's fair to wonder how much longer this little run can last. Njoku turns 29 years old this offseason, which is far from ancient by NFL tight end standards, but he's also definitely not young still.

Another factor that matters here is that 2025 is the last year on Njoku's contract with Cleveland, with 2026 being a void year. There will be plenty of uncertainty around him next offseason. It's possible he will leave Cleveland for greener pastures next offseason, but it's also possible he will end up in a worse situation in 2026.

That's why this is the best time to sell on Njoku. Someone who needs a tight end in the short term might give you a late first-round pick in the upcoming rookie draft for Njoku.

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Cade Otton had a very good 2024 season, setting career highs in receptions and receiving yards despite missing three games. The former fourth-round pick was a major part of the Buccaneers offense.

But Otton just doesn't feel like the kind of tight end who will have sustainable success in the NFL. He's not particularly fast, and his 2024 numbers were partially a product of availability, as he led all tight ends in snap share while ranking just 28th at the position in target rate.

There are just a number of tight ends around the league who are more exciting long-term options than Otton. He's unlikely to bring in a huge return, so if you're desperate at tight end, go ahead and hold on to him.

However, if you have one or two other startable guys at the position, now is the time to strike on an Otton deal. Will someone give you a late second for him? Maybe a lottery ticket running back? Take the deal.

Jonnu Smith, Miami Dolphins

I've been the conductor of the Jonnu Smith hype train for years now, so it pains me to say this: after his best career season, it's time to sell high on Smith in dynasty.

2024 was a breakout campaign for Smith, who caught 88 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in his first season with the Dolphins. Smith finally showcased the talent some of us have always known was there.

But let's take a step back. Smith was great in 2024, but a 29-year-old tight end suddenly breaking out is rare. This could certainly be the start of a little run for Smith of strong seasons in his early 30s, but it could just as easily be an anomaly.

We're not talking a 2015 Gary Barnidge type of thing, but Smith might just be a middling TE2 play in fantasy going forward. If you can find someone who thinks he's a low-end TE1, you're probably good to move on from Smith.

Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas Goedert ended the 2024 season with a Super Bowl ring, but he also posted his fewest receiving yards since his rookie year and his fewest touchdowns ever.

Of course, a big part of that was Goedert missing seven games, but injuries have always been a concern for the Eagles' tight end. In 2018 as a rookie, Goedert played 16 games. Since then, he's played 15, 11, 15, 12, 14, and 10 games.

Goedert is an aging tight end with injury concerns. Yes, he's still capable of some big games, like his seven catches for 85 yards in the NFC Championship Game against the Commanders, but that was one of just two times all season that Goedert had over 65 receiving yards.

Entering his age-30 season in 2025, it's fair to question how much longer Goedert can be a fantasy TE1 option. Now is the time to move on from Goedert in dynasty.

Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders

In 2024, Zach Ertz reminded the world that he could still play high-level football. The 34-year-old tight end caught 66 passes for 654 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season. Ertz saved his best for last, catching 11 passes for 104 yards in the NFC Championship Game loss to Philly.

2024 saw Ertz finish with his most targets, receptions, and yards since 2021 and his most touchdowns since 2018. It was a late-career renaissance for a player once viewed as one of the NFL's best tight ends.

This season proved Ertz isn't done in the NFL, but there's still a lot of uncertainty surrounding his future. He's a free agent, so he might not even be back in Washington next year. Any change in teams for Ertz at this stage should be viewed as a potential disaster waiting to happen.

But even if he is back in Washington, his role is likely to be reduced next season. The Commanders failed to find a viable No. 2 receiver beside Terry McLaurin this year, but with quarterback Jayden Daniels on a rookie deal, adding a receiver will be a priority this offseason.

That would be bad news for Ertz, whose 91 targets ranked second on the team. It's one thing to carve out a major role when the third-best receiving option on the team is either Olamide Zaccheaus or Noah Brown. It's a different thing to do if the Commanders add a reliable new weapon for Daniels.
