BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 47% of leagues
ANALYSIS: It has been a rough year for Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez in 2018. His 5.14 ERA is caused mainly to a month of May which saw four of his six starts end with allowing at least four earned runs. However, in June, he’s allowed only one earned run in three of the four outings (five earned runs in the other appearance).
Hernandez has also tallied at least six strikeouts in each game during that same span. His matchups this week are in his favor, facing the Orioles on the road and the Royals at home. Both the Orioles and Royals are in the basement in runs scored this season, giving Hernandez a chance to limit damage. Baltimore is 30th (260 runs in 73 games) and Kansas City is 28th (268 runs in 74 games). Those teams are also 28th (Orioles have .296) and 30th (Royals are .281) in team wOBA against right-handed pitchers.
It is wise to pick up Hernandez as a streamer, as he is not the same pitcher that he was in the past, but it is not good to hold him for long. He is a good addition in deeper leagues for these two starts.
